Michael Smith Scholars in Natural Sciences

Description:

This scholarship was created by former chemistry student and CEO of Freeport LNG Development LP, Michael Smith, to benefit incoming undergraduate students majoring in Chemistry. Designed to encourage students towards meaningful and rewarding careers in the sciences, recipients are selected across a range of diverse backgrounds, demonstrate intellectual curiosity, and show strong leadership skills.

Criteria:

11) Resident of Colorado pursuing a first bachelor's degree and enrolling as a full-time student at CSU 2) Majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry in the College of Natural Sciences 3) Demonstrate financial need as established by the Office of Student Financial Services of CSU and/or demonstrate extenuating financial need 4) Exhibit academic achievement demonstrated by grade point average as well as academic rigor 5) Preference shall be given to students with fewer than 60 academic credits taken at CSU the first academic year of the award (It is the intent of the scholarship that each Michael Smith Scholar (at least ten scholars) is awarded $9,500 in tuition assistance, renewable for three additional years provided the recipient continues to meet all criteria and demonstrates good progress in the major. No student shall be awarded more than eight semesters of support If a recipient is no longer eligible to renew the scholarship, scholarship award intended for that student may be awarded to another recipient with the same class level.)
